Summer Weight Loss #1 – 5 Foods To Get You Slim

During the warmer months everyone wants to look better, the problem is, most people do it all wrong when it comes to summer weight loss.

You don’t need to starve yourself if you want to look better in your bikini, in fact, starving yourself is one of the worst ways to approach losing weight. Obviously it is important to take in fewer calories than you burn, but equally important is making better food choices – in the summertime, heavy, high calorie dishes seem less appealing and this makes the whole process of losing weight quick that much easier.

You should be enjoying fresh seasonal produce which is low in calories and loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. What makes these types of food even more inviting is the fact that it is hard to do much damage to your waistline when eating fresh fruits and vegetables – you can even forget about portion control, eat until you feel satisfied and still lose weight for summer.

The following are some of my favoured summer weight loss foods:

Salads in summer make fab weight loss food!

1.) Salads

Salads are quick, easy and make a healthy meal with next to no preparation required. Give the produce a quick rinse, slice and dice the fruits and veggies, chuck in a handful of nuts with your salad greens and add some low-fat cheese to get a superb fat burning meal in minutes. You can even experiment with beans, olives and meats or fish – just go easy on the dressings!

2.) Grilled Vegetables

In the summertime a plate of grilled veggies is a must, they are just so versatile. Cook them on the barbeque and anything you don’t eat right away can be easily stored in the fridge to add to other dishes.

3.) Berries

Berries are in season during summer and that means they are simply bursting with delicious flavour. You can really go to town in the supermarket and pick up raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and other exotic types – they will all help with your weight loss by eliminating the need for sweet choices that are detrimental to your waistline. Not only that, but they are also outstanding antioxidants, helping flush out toxins from the body and keeping your blood pressure in check.

Watermelons are a superb thirst quenching weight loss food.

4.) Watermelon

Half of a watermelon is made up of water and so this fruit is a fabulous choice to quench thirst and satisfy your taste for something sweet. Watermelons and summer weight loss go hand-in-hand and who doesn’t enjoy watermelon when it’s baking hot outside!

Iced latte's are a low calorie choice.

5.) Low or No Calorie Drinks

Beverages can be one of the silent culprits of weight gain, this is especially true during the summer months when your body requires more liquids to stay cool and hydrated. Calories can add up quickly if you are selecting the wrong drinks. Water and green tea should already be a staple of your weight loss diet plan but if you feel like you want something more desirable, here are a few ideas:

Grande Ice Skim Latte from Starbucks (90 calories)
V8 100% Vegetable Juice (50 calories)
Lemon Pom Spritzer – 12oz lemon sparkling water with the juice of 1 lemon and 1/4 cup of pomegranate juice with ice (35 calories)

So there you have it, 5 foods that will help your weight loss during summer. So get down the supermarket and start adding them to your basket today!
